How Does this Halloween Scavenger Hunt Work?

You’ll want to print my Halloween scavenger hunt clues to get started. There are six clues that I’ve written. I’m also including a blank page for you to create your own clues. Find the printable pages below towards the bottom of this post, just click on the images to open the full size for printing.

The six clues all lead to a specific location in your home. For these Halloween hunt clues, your kids will be sent on a journey around your home to find these spots: porch pumpkin, toothbrush, cup, fruit/vegetables, shoe, and a book.

You can decide the order of the clues. I recommend you space them out so your kid gets to run around a bit back and forth. Perhaps, start by sending them to get the cup, then they’ll be led to the porch pumpkin, then perhaps up to their bookshelf.

How to Start Your Halloween Scavenger Hunt

A fun idea would be to start this Halloween scavenger hunt before your kids go to trick-or-treat. Hand them your house Halloween treat and have the first clue attached.

Or you might consider starting this hunt when your kid arrives home from school. The first clue could be taped to the front door, placed inside a spider web Halloween decorations, or perhaps placed by their after-school snack.

If you’re hosting a Halloween party, you could consider making this a party game. It could be tricky having all the kids run back and forth around the house, but it’s sure to be a fun Halloween event for the kids. The final prize gift could be a spooktacular treat like a cake or full-size candy bars!

If you have more than one kid you have a few options. You could have them take turns with each clue. So the one who finds the clue then hands the newly found clue off to the next kid who runs to the next clue, which they then hand off to the other kid.

Or you could do the scavenger hunts at different times when both kids aren’t at home together. Finally, you can use your own imagination and my blank clues page to create your own clues for another child.

The most important thing to remember is the last clue that is hidden will lead to SOMETHING FUN. You get to come up with whatever the Halloween-themed surprise gift will be. You might consider making a Halloween gift bag of goodies, or perhaps some light-up stuff to wear trick or treating.

Extra Fun Ideas for Your Halloween Scavenger Hunt

If you want to do something a little more spooktacularly special, here are some fun ways to make the hunt even better!

Mystery Ink

Use my blank clues page and handwrite some clues with an invisible ink pen. Kids will have to then use the special pen light to read the clues and go to the next spot.

Glow Sticks

Consider punching a hole in the corner of the clues and slip a glow stick bracelet or necklace through the hole. Then your kid can collect some glow sticks for trick or treating while they hunt.

Final Clue Puzzle

Before cutting out the 6 clues, write a final clue on the back of the paper. Leave a note at the final clue location instructing your kid to puzzle out the final clue (hint to “check the back” if needed).

You can also make these fun Halloween flashlights for a night of fun for your kids!
