Do you find that as the holidays approach you’re not just juggling shopping and everyday life, but you also have to prepare your home to welcome guests? It’s a blessing and joy to welcome friends and family into your home, but it also requires a bit of preparation and work.
While most friends would love to enjoy your company whether your house is clean or not, a clean home does feel more welcoming. Whether you’re just hosting friends for the night, or family for a week-long visit, there are a few things to take care of before your guests arrive. I’ve put together this handy guest prep checklist to help you clean and prepare your home for friends and family.
The focus of this guest prep checklist is the kitchen and bathroom, with a few added tips if you’re hosting overnight guests. You can print this checklist to help yourself stay focused on the tasks at hand, or you can even pass it off to the kiddos!
We have hardwood floors in our home and they become littered with debris everyday! Cleaning your floors is an important step in preparing for guests, that’s one area that we always feel makes a big impact on how clean our home feels. Both of my girls love using our Swiffer to clean our floors, so you might just hand this checklist chore off to the kiddos before the guests arrive!
Next up is the bathroom, that’s my other focus area when hosting. Always make sure to place extra toilet paper nearby, no guest wants to have to ask for more! I like to place a cute basket filled with fresh Charmin rolls near the toilet. I also always replace the towels in the bathroom with freshly laundered ones, using Gain Original Fresh and Downy in the wash helps the bathroom smell nice too.
When you’re ready to shop for your party Costco is the perfect store to grab everything you need for guests. You can get all the food you need, plus stock up on Charmin for the bathroom, and Gain and Downy for the towels, and Swiffer refills for the floors.
I hope with this checklist you’ll be ready to welcome guests into your home.

This is a great checklist and I LOVE the idea of handing it off to the kids. haha. Mine also love cleaning the floors too. That Swiffer really helps make it easy for them. #client
Thanks Cristi! Wonder what other household cleaning products could be made “fun” for kids…??? :)
