Tips for Packing Light – Pack with a Capsule Wardrobe

We all want to look good on our vacation. And be comfortable, right? But who has the luggage space these days to pack excessively? I’m all about discovering new tips for packing light! Having said that, I also want to look good in all my family photos. The casual tshirt and shorts look just doesn’t quite come across as cute.

What is a Capsule Wardrobe?

There’s a chance you’ve heard of the term capsule wardrobe. But if not, let me tell you what it means. Capsule wardrobes are popular now as women look to purge their closets and own less stuff. The key for a capsule wardrobe is owning a few pieces that are versatile and can be swapped and switched to create multiple outfits. (affiliate links included)

Packing Light by Mixing and Matching

My best advice for packing light is to pack pieces that can be mixed and matched to form multiple outfits. A tip for this is to find a color palette that you like and that you can stick to. I love blues, so that’s a go to color for me. I know a lot of travelers like to pack black pieces.

Once you choose one color that you want to work around, find pieces that easily partner with that color. If you have a favorite outfit or dress that you love traveling with, look at that for inspiration. Then choose more pieces that can partner with that core piece.

Pack Vacay for an Easy, Stylish and Versatile Capsule Wardrobe

For my recent trip to Hawaii I packed solely with a Vacay collection. They reached out to me to take a collection on vacation with me, and now I have an a clothing collection that I’m in love with. Plus, it’s the perfect example of packing light with a travel capsule wardrobe.

Pack Pieces that Can Swap for Day and Night

When you’re choosing a travel capsule wardrobe the pieces should be able to be mixed and matched to take you from day to night. My St. Martin Collection is great for this. I can dress casual during the day while exploring the islands or hanging at the beach, then do a quick swap of a piece or switch to a dress for dining in the evening.

I used the lace dress from the St. Martin collection as a beach cover up, but when layered with the under slip, it became a great dinner dress. As a tall girl (5’9″), the dresses were short, but they still covered and I felt pretty wearing them.

As you can see, picking pieces that you can mix and match is the key for packing light on vacation. Plus, the Vacay collection was just as comfortable as my favorite t-shirt actually, meaning I looked cute while staying comfortable on my trip!

It's always a struggle but I've found that willing to do a little sink washing, and color-coordinating can go a long way towards helping with packing light!

Good for you! I always pack light, but normally multiple outfits. The working around mix and match pieces was never really a planned thing for me, but it makes things so much easier. And gives more flexibility for moods of the day too! :)
