Couples Romantic Getaway from Seattle to Semiahmoo Resort

Recently I had a chance to go away for the weekend with my hubby for a romantic getaway to the Semiahmoo Resort. In addition to looking forward to getting away with my hubby, I couldn’t wait to check out this resort that I had heard so much about!

Semiahmoo is located on a narrow peninsula at the US/Canadian border. In fact you can see the Peace Arch border crossing from the resort. The resort even recommends confirming that your data roaming is turned off while visiting. The property is home to some private homes as well as the resort hotel. Its oceanfront location is part of what makes it a perfect spot for a romantic getaway.

Semiahmoo Resort Rooms

We had a lower level king bed room that opened out to the ocean. These rooms could be great for families, or couples wanting to walk to the water easily from their room. The room was very clean and comfortable. I loved the decor and the linens were very comfortable.

A few tips about choosing your room and requests to make:
  • You might want to request a room not on the lower level if you’d like more privacy. Our room was on the lower level next to the lobby and there was a lot of foot traffic outside. However, the lower level rooms are perfect if you enjoy walking out to the water directly from your room.
  • Definitely request a room NOT next to a pet-friendly room. We had a dog in the room next to us and it was scratching and barking often. On the other hand, the hotel is pet-friendly, perfect if you’re bringing your dog along on vacation.
  • They offer lovely junior suites that feature a fireplace and are the perfect rooms for a romantic getaway.

There are lovely trails that run along both sides of the peninsula, making Semiahmoo a great spot to escape and reconnect while strolling along the beach. The property is also set apart almost like it’s on its own private island, making it a calm and intimate destination to escape to. Our visit had some rainy weather, but on nice weather days you can rent watersports gear and adventure out on the water too.

Pierside Kitchen Breakfast at Semiahmoo Resort

One of my favorite parts of our stay was our breakfast at Pierside Kitchen. We had a small table by the window and the food was delicious. They offer a buffet option, but both of us decided to order from the menu. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was bright and beautiful. The perfect spot to hold hands while sipping our morning coffee.

Things to Do at Semiahmoo Resort

In addition to the beachfront walks, couples can also take advantage of the fitness center and spa. The resort has an indoor/outdoor pool as well as a fitness center that features weights and a small running track. While we didn’t get to try out the spa, they do offer some lovely treatments, including a togetherness massage for couples.

Golf is a huge draw for the property, so if you and your partner play be sure to pack your clubs. They have two courses, which alternate tee times by even and odd days. Hotel guests receive a small discount on their green fees.

Driving from Seattle to Semiahmoo Resort

The drive up to Semiahmoo is an easy trip up I-5, it takes about 2.5 hours for the trip. There are a lot of great spots along the way to stop in and visit. With the spring season, consider allowing some time to visit La Conner and the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. I recommend using the Waze app to try and avoid the heavy traffic that hits that area when the tulips are in bloom.

The Ristretto Coffee Lounge and Wine Bar is a great stop in Mount Vernon to get a bite to eat and your favorite craft beverage. It has a cozy seating area too, and is located in downtown Mount Vernon, perfect for some small town window shopping on your romantic getaway.

The Semiahmoo Resort is the perfect spot to escape to for a romantic getaway, but it’s also great for families looking for a fun vacation spot on the sea.

Thank you to the Semiahmoo Resort for hosting us overnight for our visit. All thoughts and opinions are my own based on our experience.
