It’s a new year and many of us have been planning for all the great things we’re going to do to better ourselves, our job, our family. Often I find myself focusing on my role as mother when I think of planning for bettering my family life, but I need to also remember my husband and how I can improve and strengthen my marriage in the new year. One of my resolutions for my marriage this year is to plan a date night more often, and make them good ones! I’m going to play the role of a famous tv personality and introduce you to my favorite things for a couples date night!
Babysitting Bonuses
Pick up a fun activity for your babysitter to do with your kids. Perhaps something crafty, a game, or a new movie. Also consider a little dessert for after dinner. Your babysitter will appreciate having something new to do with your kids, your kids will love having a special treat, and you’ll feel better knowing your kids are having fun and enjoying their time while you’re away. Also consider offering a babysitting date night trade with some friends if you want to save some money or don’t know a good babysitter. You watch their kids one night for them to have a date night, and they return the favor another night.
Not Your Usual Date Night
We’ve all done the dinner and movie route for date nights, so I’m planning to think outside the box and plan activities that are aren’t your typical date night. I recently bought certificates for indoor skydiving and have plans to buy certificates for a local ropes course & ziplining place. If you and your spouse are foodies, consider finding a city food tour or wine tasting. There are tons of local activities on some of the popular deal sites, so see what you can find to branch beyond your regular date.
Dress To Impress
This might not be for everyone, but I’m going to say dress up as one of my favorite date night things. I think back to my first date and how I made my hair look nice, picked out a cute outfit, and applied just the right eyeshadow and lipstick. I felt great! My husband loves me in jeans and a t-shirt, but he also loves how I look when I make a bit of extra effort on my hair and makeup. Perhaps even giving yourself a little mani or pedi will help you feel good about your appearance. Whatever it is, just make an effort to look nice and feel like you’re dressed for a date night.
Conversation Starters
While both my hubby and I love technology and find dual phone use acceptable, we both know it’s not ideal for a date night. So, one of my new favorite ideas for planning a couples date night is to create some conversation starters. Grab a piece of paper and think of a few topics or questions you can bring up at dinner to spark some conversation and increase your closeness. Some ideas might be: goals for the year, best memory as a couple, favorite date night, dream vacation, hobby interests, career plans, most anticipated upcoming event, etc. Think of what your spouse loves to talk about, and think about what you’d like to share.

Some great ideas! I need to work on getting into normal clothes before the hubby gets home so I can look nicer. Workout clothes are so comfy....

I hear you Britney! Love my lounging clothes. My hubby works from home too, so some days neither of us make much effort!

Thank you Brittney! I'll admit that I don't do it everytime, but it's nice to do every once in a while. In addition to impressing my hubby on our date night, it also makes me feel good too!
