NEW 2026-2027 Disneyland Magic Key Annual Pass (Blockout Date Calendar Comparison & Price)

Updated through 2027! Hey, Disneyland fans! Magic Key sales have been open for a bit now but have a habit of opening and closing throughout the year, so if you’ve been waiting to buy one, I want to walk you through exactly how that works, plus everything you need to know about the four pass options, their prices, and their blockout dates.

When Can I Buy a Magic Key?

Right now, all four Magic Key passes are open for purchase: Inspire, Believe, Explore, and Imagine. Disneyland has been known to open and close magic key sales. They open sales for a stretch, then pause once they hit whatever capacity they’re aiming for and reopen again later. There is a whole page of Magic Key buying tips from Disneyland.

One thing worth knowing before you buy, your Magic Key doesn’t start its one-year clock when you purchase it. You have up to a year from your purchase date to activate the pass with your first park entry, so if you’re buying now for a trip later this year, you’re not wasting any time by grabbing it early.

One of the best perks I’ve found with having a Magic Key is the freedom to plan spontaneous visits. Even as someone who doesn’t live locally, I love being able to plan a half-day visit if it lines up with my travels whereas if I had to buy a day pass each time I’d likely skip the parks. Plus, the dining discounts really do feel nice if you’re eating in the parks or Downtown Disney (not all restaurants qualify FYI).

And there is good news for those of us who are planning any trips and already have tickets and reservations. You can exchange your current tickets for a Magic Key. For example, I’m planning to visit the parks in September for Disneyland Halloween and I’ll be able to credit my park ticket towards a Magic Key pass on my final day in the parks.

To upgrade a park ticket to a Magic Key, you’ll visit the ticket booths at Disneyland before the end (close) of your last day’s visit. What you paid for that ticket will be applied towards the cost of whichever Magic Key you choose to purchase. But don’t upgrade before your last day as your park reservations you made with your ticket won’t transfer to the new Magic Key including possible blockout dates.

What IS the Disneyland Magic Key?

What Disneyland calls a Magic Key is essentially the same as their old Annual Pass program, just rebranded. When you buy a Magic Key, you can visit Disneyland multiple times a year for one price. There are blockout dates when certain Magic Key passes won’t be eligible for park entry, and those vary by tier.

The Magic Key program requires a park reservation for every visit. To enter a park, you need both a valid reservation and a Magic Key pass valid on that date. Reservations for Magic Key holders are available 90 days in advance, but they’re limited in number and subject to availability, so a pass doesn’t guarantee entry even on a day that isn’t blocked out.

Dates where new holidays/festivals or new merchandise launch typically book out quickly with locals. But overall, I’ve found I don’t necessarily need to plan my trips 3 months in advance if I’m not visiting during a peak day/season.

Your annual pass year doesn’t start the day you buy it, instead it starts on the date of your first park entry (or first use of the parking benefit), and you have up to one year from your purchase date to activate it that way. Once you activate, your Key is valid for one year from that first-use date.

Magic Key passes work like Park Hopper tickets; you can visit both parks in a single day. You’ll still choose a starting park when you make your reservation, but as of June 9, 2026, Disneyland dropped its old rule requiring you to wait until 11 am to hop over. Now you can hop to the second park any time during the day, right from park opening, subject to that park’s capacity.

What are the Magic Key Options & How Much Do They Cost?

There are four Magic Key options today. One of them, the Imagine Key, is only available to Southern California residents.

One thing worth considering before you compare prices is how many reservations you can “hold” at once. If you can hold 6 reservations, you can have 6 separate dates booked at the same time within the open 90-day window. If you can hold 4, you’re limited to 4 dates at a time, and so on.

When you make your reservation for the day, you’ll choose which park you want to visit. Which park(s) are available for your date will be noted on the availability calendar. Disneyland is noted with a pink castle, and California Adventure is noted with a teal Mickey wheel. But remember as I said above, you can park hop immediately so it really doesn’t matter which park you get a reservation for as long as you have a reservation.

If reservations aren’t available on your date you’ll see a circle with a line through it – you also see this for dates you hold reservations for already. And if you’re blocked out, you’ll see a slash line through the date.

Inspire Key – $1899

This is the top tier Magic Key. It comes with the fewest blockout dates of any pass by far, valid almost every day of the year except a stretch around the December holidays (as of right now), and includes the best discounts and free standard parking.

Also, keep in mind that entry is not guaranteed just because you’re a key holder. You will need to make reservations and availability may be limited. Reservations are available 90 days in advance.

• 25% off the purchase of Lightning Lane Multi Pass
• Unlimited Disney PhotoPass digital photo downloads
• Up to 20% off select merchandise
• Up to 15% off select dining
• Standard theme park parking included (excluding blockout dates, at the Mickey & Friends Parking Structure, Pixar Pals Parking Structure and Toy Story Parking Area)
• Can pay for itself in as few as 11 visits (Disney’s own estimate, based on a $174 Tier 0 ticket)

Believe Key – $1474

For a savings of $425, you can get the Believe Key pass, but you’ll step down on some benefits. The Believe Key pass has more blackout dates, less of a discount in the parks (10% off instead of 20% & 15%), and only 50% off parking. If you like to visit Disneyland on the weekends, this pass or the Inspire Key are your best options.

The Inspire and the Believe Key passes are also the only two passes that offer you the chance to hold 6 reservations at a time. If you like to plan for 3-day vacations, this would allow you to have two 3-day trips reserved at a time. The Believe and Inspire Keys also are the only Keys with Disney PhotoPass included, perfect for those of you who love getting your photo taken around the parks.

• Reservation-based Park Hopper admission most days of the year with blockout dates landing around 44 total for the year based on the current and estimated 2027 dates
• Hold up to 6 theme park reservations at a time
• 25% off the purchase of Lightning Lane Multi Pass
• Unlimited Disney PhotoPass digital photo downloads

• 50% off standard theme park parking (excluding blockout days, and available for purchase at Mickey & Friends Parking Structure, Pixar Pals Parking Structure and the Toy Story Parking Area)
• Can pay for itself in as few as 9 visits

Explore Key – $974

If you don’t live in Southern California, this will be your cheapest option for a Magic Key pass. It’s a step down from the Believe Key and comes with many more blockout dates, including all Saturdays, smaller discount on parking only at the Toy Story lot, and no PhotoPass. You’ll also only be able to hold 4 park reservations at a time.

The Explore Key debuted January 13, 2026, replacing the Enchant Key, which is no longer sold or renewed. Explore opens roughly 40 additional summer weekdays, though by the 2026 calendar, that still only works out to around 43 usable days total across June and July combined, so don’t expect wide-open summer availability even with this pass. Most Saturdays are blocked year-round on this tier.

• Reservation-based admission to one or both theme parks select days of the year (~104 blockout dates mostly in the summer, weekends, and Nov/Dec holidays).
• Hold up to 4 theme park reservations at a time
• 25% off the purchase of Lightning Lane Multi Pass
• 10% off select merchandise
• 10% off select dining
• 25% off standard theme park parking at the Toy Story Parking Area only (excluding blockout dates)
• Can pay for itself in as few as 6 visits

Imagine Key (SoCal Pass only) – $599

The Imagine Key is only available for Southern California Residents living in zip codes 90000 to 93599. This pass is the most limited and comes with the most blackout dates as well as the least number of reservations. Be sure not to confuse the names, the best one is the Inspire Key and this is the limited Imagine Key.

• Reservation-based admission to one or both theme parks select days of the year (~201 blockout dates, mostly summer, weekends, and December).
• Hold up to 2 theme park reservations at a time
• 25% off the purchase of Lightning Lane Multi Pass
• 10% off select merchandise
• 10% off select dining
• 25% off standard theme park parking at the Toy Story Parking Area (excluding blockout dates)
• Can pay for itself in as few as 4 visits

** note there is some fine print with each of these Magic Key options, so be sure you have reviewed the fine print at Disneyland.com. There is a no-show clause that will encourage people to use their reservations or cancel in advance.

California residents (all CA residents) will also have the opportunity to pay for their Magic Key in a payment plan over the year with a small down payment.

Magic Key Calendar Blackout Dates Comparison

While each Key has its own blockout calendar, I knew that when comparing the different key types it makes more sense to be able to look at the months matched up as that’s how people will be planning their trips. Which Magic Key Annual Pass Should I Get?

Only you can truly answer that, however, I have a few tips you should consider.

If money is not a factor and you want to visit multiple times a year including during the holidays, the Inspire Key is probably your best option. This also comes with free parking, making it likely an ideal pass for a local who visits often and drives to the park. The discount on dining and merchandise will also be a great perk for a true Disney fan who likes to shop and eat when visiting the parks.

For a SoCal resident who is happy visiting the parks after work during the week, the Imagine Key is an affordable option to get your Disney fix. With around 200 blockout dates, you’d likely miss many of the peak seasonal events, however with two days of reservations available it would be easy for those middle-of-the-week visits.

That leaves the choice between Believe and Explore. The roughly $475 gap mainly buys you far fewer blockout dates, including access during June and July, plus the ability to hold 6 reservations instead of 4, and 50% off parking instead of 25%. If you need summer flexibility or plan multiple multi-day trips, Believe is worth the extra cost. If your travel plans avoid weekends, holidays, and peak summer, Explore is the better value.

When it comes to comparing the cost of Disneyland tickets against a Magic Key, current retail pricing puts a 2-Day Park Hopper around $435 and a 3-Day Park Hopper around $535. Two 3-day trips a year runs about $1,070 in tickets alone, and three 2-day trips runs about $1,305.

At those numbers, Explore ($999) and Imagine ($599) both beat buying tickets outright. Inspire ($1,899) and Believe ($1,474) actually cost more upfront than separate tickets for that same travel pattern, so those tiers make the most sense if you’re visiting more often, or if the added perks, parking, PhotoPass, bigger discounts, are worth the difference to you.
