The Ultimate Family GETAWAY – Norwegian Cruise Line

Who wouldn’t consider a family vacation packed with rock climbing, delicious food, beaches, broadway style shows, movies, ropes courses and pools the ultimate family getaway?! With so much to delight every member of the family, spending your time aboard the new Norwegian Getaway is sure to go down as a fave in your family vacation history book. We loved our vacation aboard the Norwegian Pearl, so we couldn’t wait to experience what the Getaway had to offer.

Norwegian Getaway Cruise Ship

Starting off, let me tell you that the Norwegian Getaway is a big ship. But, the big size means lots of room to add things like a ropes course, mini golf course, and waterslides. It’s these extra activities that made the cruise so much fun for our girls, and in turn our family.

Let’s look at our cabin first. Since our first cruise as a couple for our honeymoon we’ve been hooked on balcony cabins. They’re more money and you can’t score the deep deals like you sometimes can on interior staterooms, but for us, it makes a huge difference for our vacation. Waking up with the sun seems to help brighten our day, not to mention that the large glass wall helps give the illusion that we’ve got a bit more space than 207 square feet. We were in cabin 11256 which was a midship balcony but actually toward the back (aft) of the ship.

We enjoyed our location since being near all the activities is what our family loves. If you prefer quieter locations or being close to dining, consider moving further toward the forward stairs/elevators. You have to know you’ll have very little room in a stateroom, but I was very happy with the layout of the cabin on the Norwegian Getaway. You’d be surprised at all the nooks and crannies they have built in. The bathroom had great shelving that was handy and for first time cruisers you may not realize that the beds are designed so you store your suitcases underneath.

Food is always a highlight for most cruises. Norwegian has the freestyle dining experience which means you get to pick when you eat and where you eat! You’ll have the choice of six restaurants that are complimentary to dine at, Savor, Taste, The Tropicana Room, the Garden Cafe, O’Sheehans, and Flamingo Grill. Or you can choose to eat at one of their ten specialty restaurants that have an additional surcharge.

Looks like a lot of fun activities for the kids, which would be a big draw for me if we ever eventually go on a cruise. I haven't been on one yet, but looks like a lot of fun.

That is one of the reasons we love the bigger ships, lots of activities! I also love not having to plan meals, make beds, or do dishes for an entire week! :)

I've always considered myself a "non-cruiser" (motion sickness is my nemesis) but this looks like a great trip! It looks like there is never a dull moment and great for all ages!

Briton I get major motion sickness too. I actually do the behind the ear patch thing and it works for me. We also try to stay near the midship for our room, but dining at the back of the ship still can get to me at times! Perhaps one day you'll give it a try, just get the patch before hand and perhaps try a 3-4 day cruise first. :)

This looks like it was so much fun! I've never been to Norway but I would love to go someday!

Our family really enjoyed it Britney. While it's Norwegian Cruise Line, they're all over the US and we cruised out of Miami to a few Caribbean islands. I'd love to visit Norway too someday, but I hear the prices are quite high there so it's something to consider!

We have never truly been cruise folks, but this ship looks amazing! So many fun things to do!

Hi Carmen! Yes, cruising seems to be a hit or miss with many people. We love being able to pay one price and step on board and relax. No meal planning, activity admission expenses, no dishes, and no making our beds! :) It really is a fun experience, but not always for every family.
