4th of July Flashlights for Kids on Independence Day

Summer is here! Well, I guess technically not until June 21st, but based on our weather in Seattle, it’s here! And with summer comes a break from morning lunch duty, yummy watermelon snacks, and of course, the 4th of July! I’ve partnered up with some very talented bloggers to share some great 4th of July projects, so after checking out my fun 4th of July flashlights, check out the other great ideas at the end of my post!
Red, White, and Blue Ideas for celebrating the 4th of July! Great ideas for decor, food, crafts, and fun all to help you celebrate and party for Independence Day!

My fun 4th of July idea is one that you’ll want to definitely do for your kids! My kids have loved flashlight projection crafts ever since I created the Halloween Flashlight craft, so I figured since this is another holiday that is often celebrated in the evening, it’s a great reason to create some fun 4th of July flashlights for the kids to play with on Independence Day!

These 4th of July flashlights are an easy craft to create for the kids on Independence Day for using during the parties & fireworks fun

You’ll want to purchase some flashlights, and I bought these two at Target. This Life Gear Glow Handle LED Flashlight is nice because the glowing handle adds some extra fun! Plus this flashlight has a smooth (flat) plastic light piece, which works better with the stencils. I also bought these Eveready LED Economy Flashlights and spray painted the black ring white to stick with the red, white, and blue theme. One thing about these is the plastic light “screen” has a bubble to help disperse the light, but I think it slightly distorts some of the shapes. It’s not a big issue though, so don’t worry if that’s all you can find.

You want to create a circle of cardstock that is a just about the same diameter as the flashlight ring opening. Then the fun part happens and you can create your light stencil.

Option 1: use a Cricut or other cutting machine. (Here is the link to my Cricut 4th of July flashlight cutting project)

Option 2: use paper punches to create some designs. The star shapes are easy to do this way. You could also make some fireworks with some creative paper punching!

Once you’ve created your stencils for your 4th of July flashlight projections, all that’s left is to attach them to the flashlights. I’ve used tape before, but this time I used some sticky tack. I actually think the tape does a better job of not bending the stencil if you plan to switch out designs. Note, if you’re doing any words or letters, the design has to be mounted backwards on the flashlight so the projection will shine correctly.

If you want to do a final little bit of decorating, grab a hair tie and tie some red, white, and blue ribbon strips around the band then slide onto the flashlight. This helps give your 4th of July flashlight an extra little flair!

The kids would have so much fun with these - I need to get some funky cut outs like that - maybe I have a crafty friend who has this specialized cutting machine.

My girls just love them and it's definitely helpful having a cutting machine! You can make some great "fireworks" with just a hole punch and there are lots of fun punches available at craft stores that might work.
