Disney Cares! Allergy-Friendly Treats Offered at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

This allergy mom is jumping up and down at something I discovered last night at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World! I’ve previously attended Mickey’s Halloween Party in Disneyland Halloween Time, but this year Disney showed that they care about families managing food allergies.

Our own experience handling our daughter’s nut allergies is something we battle constantly when traveling. That is why it meant so much to me to see Disney making an effort to show that kids’ lives and safety matters!

How Allergy Families Need to Start at the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

Guests are given a trick or treat bag when they enter the park for the party. Families who have food allergies will want to get one of the teal allergy treat bags. When you’re given the bag, you’ll also receive a teal token that can later be redeemed for allergy-friendly treats.

Disney’s new allergy friendly option for the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party also tries to address possible cross-contamination. At treat stations cast members give you a few pieces of candy from their large bucket stations. But individuals holding a teal treat bag are instead given a teal token chip at the treat trail.

Getting Your Allergy-Friendly Treats at the MNSSHP (Halloween Party)

Once you’ve collected your teal tokens, it’s time to turn them in for treats! There are two allergy redemption stations in the park. I went to the Liberty Square location, the other is at the end of Main Street. Only one person was in front of me for the redemption at the Liberty Square location. I suspect the Main Street location might get busier due to many families doing it on their way out of the park. That being said, the Liberty Square location had just a single cast member, so perhaps the Main Street location had more to handle higher numbers.

I was pleasantly surprised at the thoughtful consideration Disney gave to making the Halloween Party fun for allergy kids. Instead of a single allergy-friendly treat option, they had a variety. Disney offers seven food and two non-food options. You should take note that I turned my tokens in late in the night (around 11 pm), and the two cookie options were no longer available.

Allergy-friendly treat options were displayed on a flyer, each with detailed allergen labeling info. The treats offered were:

  • Smarties
  • Surf Sweets Gummy Worms
  • Surf Sweets Gummy Bears
  • Surf Sweets Jelly Beans
  • boom Choco boom Ricemilk Chocolate Bar
  • Enjoy Life Vanilla Honey Graham Crunchy Cookies
  • Enjoy Life Double Chocolate Crunchy Cookies
  • Pumpkin Character Ornament Craft Kit (non-food item)
  • Foam Heart Halloween Character Ornament Craft Kit (non-food item)

From the token process that addresses cross-contamination, to the variety of allergy-friendly options, it’s obvious to this allergy mom that Disney cares. I applaud them and hope they can help set an example to other large companies that this is an issue that needs to be addressed.

Thank you Disney for understanding the struggles families of today face, and showing you care!

This is so awesome. I'm always so terrified with my son and trick or treating! I'm even more excited to go to Disney this Halloween. :)

I'm excited to know a family that will benefit from it. I was so excited to share the news that I wrote the post immediately the morning after I attended. In a world where people want to say, "it's your problem, deal with it", it really means a lot that Disney cares about families with food allergies!
